Optiscan removed from sale

We have decided to remove version 1.4 of Optiscan from sale until Apple approve version 1.5, due to a bug which affects automatic scanning devices that have been upgraded to iPhone OS 3.0. The user experience using version 1.4 on iPhone OS 3.0 is not acceptable, and we don’t want to introduce new users to the application this way.

Hopefully Apple will approve version 1.5 soon, at which point we will return Optiscan to the App Store.

We still want to support our existing users. Owners of Optiscan with an urgent need to have the application working on iPhone OS 3.0 should contact us to explain their situation, using the problem reporting features of the application. Subject to workload, we may be able to assist.

Any update on where approval is at? This is taking an almost ridiculous amount of time to make it back into the App store… Disappointing as it was probably the best QR reader for iPhone when its working properly…

  2. David Crowell Says:

    Ditto.

Is there any update yet about this?
It’s time to take this matter to the press if apple continue to give non-replys or just being silent.
I mean we have been waiting for 2 months already.

I have upgraded to 3GS by the way. Can you send me a ad-hoc copy of version 1.5 for the time being? Thanks a lot.

  4. Jeff Doyle Says:

I bought this app and it stops working and all I get is this lame explanation?

I liked the app but I don’t think much of the support.

  5. Jeff Doyle Says:

OK, I take it back. I love the support. My hats off to Ben Blaukopf for getting back to me immediately with details and some proposals to rectify the situation. Good work Airsouce!

Any update on when this version will be approved ? Did you guys actually got feedback from Apple since the application has been submitted ?
I bought this application and owning an iphone 3GS, I have never been able to use it, quite frustrating….
    thanks to keep us posted!

  7. maique Says:

also waiting for this update, for a long time.
the app was amazing, speedy, and just turned into something unusable.

hope you get it approved soon.

  8. Daniel Gray Says:

Hey, any news on the update? It’s certainly been a while now… I really like this app and have a good laugh sending QR codes over facebook and the likes through it. As well as other more serious and professional uses for it, of course.
    So, yeah, anything?
    Thanks,
    Dan.

  9. Chris Says:

So, Jeff got some details about the delay. But what about us? I’m still waiting and I hardly can believe that no news is available to share with the customers. Airsource, what’s up? Can we get a working software, please.

  10. Ben Says:

Optiscan has unfortunately been rejected by Apple after a significant delay. Optiscan is still under active development, and Airsource hope to have a revised version submitted to Apple in the near future. Chris, we will contact you in person also.

  11. Liz Says:

Would you update me also please? Soon after I bought the application there was the iPhone update and so I couldn’t use it at all. Alternatuvely can we get Apple to refund our money?

  12. Tom Steele Says:

You weren’t rejected Ben, you just “weren’t approved” in Apple lingo. Let us know when you guys are back up and running!

  13. Holger Says:

Can you contact me in the same manner as Chris?? I also appreciated Optiscan and was very disappointed about the enormous delay of a 3.0 compatible update. Optican was the best reader but nowadays QuickMark gives the same functionality… What are the details? I can not believe that Apple is delaying the update such a long time. If so I will have change to other mobile brands (Android, etc.) in future….

  14. Jens Says:

    What about a money-back option? :-(

  15. Michael Says:

4 months later and still no update on Optiscan. I want it back in the AppStore.

  16. Stefab Says:

Any news about the revised version?

  17. John Says:

To Jens and Liz – regarding getting money back: you can of course approach iTunes customer support to obtain a refund. Working out how to do this is an exercise for the reader! Nonetheless I will shortly contact you offline (if we haven’t already) to send you a fully working build.

Nonetheless we have now had some direct contact with Apple – see today’s post, here. We now expect our update will be available through the app store this week.
