Optiscan bug on iPhone OS 3.0
To all our customers who have purchased Optiscan:
Version 1.4 of Optiscan, currently on the App Store, does not support automatic scanning on iPhone OS 3.0. We sent version 1.5, which fixes this problem and adds some new features, to Apple about three weeks ago, but it has not yet been approved for distribution. Apple have been extremely busy, but with the OS update expected out on Friday and no word on our update, we felt it was important to post a warning!
The application still functions correctly in all other respects. But, if the automatic scanning function is important to you, please delay updating to iPhone OS 3.0 until Apple publishes our more recent release.

Hi,
Just tried it on a iphone 3GS with OS 3.0, but cannot get it to recognize any qr code. I understand is doesn’t support automatic scanning, but if I take a picture of the qr code it says “could not find a barcode”although I know those barcodes are valid.
Has the application been tested on iphone 3GS yet ? is that also an os 3.0 problem ?
thanks

Yes, there are some issues with full-resolution scanning on the 3GS due to aliasing artefacts. We’ve tested auto-scan and that works well, because we typically scan at a lower resolution than when scan is done manually. Once Apple approve the current release we’ll probably have to do a further minor release to improve manual performance on the 3GS.

Thanks for the heads up. I’d just discovered that the auto scan was broken. Hopefully Apple let the update through soon. Optiscan is the most effective QR reader I’ve come across!

Yell at Apple.
Over a month to approve an app? Yeesh.

Any update. I have noticed that none of the scanner apps for Iphone work.
C’mon Apple release this!

Can’t wait either. I really hope this approval ‘commission’ can speed things up. If anyone knows what to expect of them, please let me know.

Has anyone heard how much longer we will be waiting? I paid for this app specifically for the real-time scanning abilities.

I hae sent complaints through the iTunes app store and received the standard Apple “we don’t talk about stuff” response. This is taking a rediculously long time to go through approval, especially as it’s a paid app, and the bug was a result of the 3.0 OS update.
It’s really difficult to use optiscan without the auto-scan feature, I hope Apple hurries up!

EZ-J, we have provided you with and several others with an urgent need with an ad hoc copy of the application. Very sorry we can’t do this for everyone - the process is time-consuming so we simply can’t do it for every support request.

Thanks for these updates. I am not fully clear from these posts, will version 1.5 of Optiscan for the iphone still allow automatic scanning, or will we have to scan manually due to the changes in the iphone camera API?

Version 1.5 supports automatic scanning on iPhone, and works fine on 3.0. We are just waiting for Apple to approve it - along with our other new app, Cellar! This is very frustrating for us, let alone for our customers, who we appreciate are left with software that isn’t meeting its full potential.
